Behind the brand
Hi, I’m Laura-An Van der Steen. I’m currently studying clinical psychology, but painting has been a part of my life since I was six. What started as something playful and creative slowly grew into something much bigger. A few years ago, I decided to take the leap and since then I’ve been working as an independent artist.
All of my paintings are made by hand, using durable and high-quality materials. I work on linen canvases which last longer than cotton and have a richer texture. My stretcher frames are custom-made from metal, providing long-term stability and tightness. I finish each piece with a wooden frame that is assembled by hand. That way, the whole thing — from canvas to corners — is solid, unique and built to last.
I mostly paint with acrylic which is fast-drying, low-odor, allows me to build up rich layers and textures and is more environmentally friendly than many traditional mediums. Perfect for bold and expressive works with a clean, modern feel.
What makes my process different is that I always start with you. I like to visit the space where the painting is going to hang to get a feel for the room, the light, the colors and the mood. From there, I design something that truly fits; not just in terms of size and color, but in the atmosphere it brings to the space.
Looking for a one-of-a-kind piece that’s made just for you with care and intention? I’d love to hear your story and create something that feels right.
